Blackhead Facial Treatments

Blackheads don't pose a health risk to your skin, but can be very troublesome as a cosmetic problem. They arise when your pores get clogged with oil, which then turns a dark color when exposed to the air. Several facial treatments, ranging from cleansers to facial topical treatments, can help dissolve and remove this oil for a clearer complexion.

Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser

Murad combines alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids in its skin cleanser, which skincare expert Paula Begoun called "very good." The AHAs exfoliate the top of your skin while the BHA penetrates your pores to dissolve oil and help dislodge blackheads. Meanwhile, the addition of jojoba oil helps to moisturize your skin.

St. Ives Apricot Face Wash Blemish & Blackhead Control

St. Ives' blackhead-controlling facial wash earned top marks from the editors of InStyle magazine. They liked its combination of both physical exfoliants and blackhead-dissolving salicylic acid. The physical exfoliants help slough off dead skin cells and dirt while the acid gets deep inside your pores.

Bioré Deep Cleansing Pore Strips

Biore's pore strips come recommended by Real Simple magazine as a way to clean out your pores. The treatment consists of strips that you moisten and smooth onto your skin. After the strip dries, you pull it off. It grabs at your skin as you take it off, helping to pull out blackheads and debris that may be plugging your pores.

Dr. Brandt Skincare Pores No More

Dr. Brandt's topical ointment was featured in the Cosmetic Executive Women's 2010 beauty awards, one of the biggest such award shows in the beauty industry. The CEW loved how it uses various acids to "release...blackheads" while also exfoliating your general skin surface. Basic emollients and skin conditioners, like rose extract and silicone dioxide, may also help to improve the general health of your skin.

Neutrogena Blackhead Eliminating Daily Scrub

Neutrogena's product scrubs away debris and oil to help remove the visible portions of your blackheads, according to Begoun. It uses smooth microbeads to help buff your skin surface while salicylic acid dissolves and banishes built-up deposits of oil.
