You want a healthier body and decide a detox may be what you need. There are many different ways to detox your system, including formal programs and simple changes in diet and lifestyle. Regardless of what method you choose for your detoxification, consult with your health care team to make sure that it is safe for you, whether or not you have any chronic conditions or take prescription medication.

Fiber

Fiber is a popular way to detox your system. One of the reasons it is so popular is because it encourages you to do something you should already be doing: eating more fruits and vegetables. Eating foods high in fiber allows the fiber to expand and bind to toxins and decaying waste in your large intestine for elimination. Foods good for this type of detox include brown rice, beets, artichokes, radishes, cabbage, broccoli, spirulina and seaweed. Although you will be eating more fruits and vegetables, be sure to see you health-care provider before making any drastic changes to your diet, especially for detoxification purposes.

Water

Water is another popular way to detox your system, even though it is generally accepted that water is good for your body anyway. One of the reasons water is used as a detox method is that many people consume too much salt in their diets and increasing your water intake will help to flush out the excess salt along with other toxins in the body. One recommendation is to drink at least two quarts of water daily, says Gaiam Life. Drink more water as you exercise and as the weather gets warmer. Although water is good for your body, it is possible to drink too much. Consult with your doctor or nutritionist to see how much water you should drink for your situation.

Dry Brush

Using a dry brush on your body before a shower is another way to detox. These types of brushes are typically sold at natural health and food stores. The brush is used to get rid of dead skin cells and toxins and people claim this will also help you lose weight and give you glowing skin, says Natural News. If you have sensitive skin or are concerned about irritation, see a dermatologist before using any kind of dry brush.

Juice Fast

A juice fast is what it says. You fast by only drinking juices made from fresh fruits and vegetables for a specified period of time. This can be anywhere from three, 10, or 30 days. The choice of fruits and vegetables depends on which juice fast you follow, but generally they are fresh, local, and organic. Because this fast does not include any solid food, consult your doctor before beginning this or any other type of fast.
