Concealer is a type of makeup offered in skin tone colors that is available as a liquid, cream or stick. It is used to cover imperfections in the skin such as dark circles under the eyes, uneven skin tone and blemishes. Stick concealers are thicker in consistency than liquid or cream concealers, which makes them well-suited for long-lasting coverage of blemishes. Proper application, however, is crucial.
Step 1
Dab concealer onto the blemish using a makeup brush or small sponge; do not rub the concealer onto the blemish. Blend the concealer outwards into the skin surrounding the blemish. If the blemish shows through the concealer, carefully dab another layer onto the blemish and blend outward.
Step 2
Apply foundation to your face, including the blemish if it still differs in color from your skin tone. Be sure to dab, not rub the foundation onto your blemish or you will wipe away the concealer. Adding foundation on top of the concealer will help to blend in the concealer if it appears slightly lighter or darker than your complexion.
Step 3
Dip a powder brush into your loose face powder and dust your entire face with powder. Powder will set your foundation and concealer to make them last longer. If you do not have a powder brush and loose powder, apply powder from a compact by patting the blemish with the applicator. Do not rub powder onto your blemish.
Step 4
Touch up your blemish with powder throughout the day. If your concealer starts to wear off, reapply a thin layer of concealer on the blemish and set with powder.
Tips and Warnings
- Choose a concealer in stick form that is a shade lighter than your skin tone. A lighter shade allows you to lighten a darker blemish so it looks closer to your own skin tone.
