A double chin is typically a result of a high amount of fat in the body. How much you store in your chin area is entirely dependent on your age, genetics and how overweight you are. A balanced diet and regular exercise are the best methods to get rid of a double chin. Facial exercises also work to tighten the chin muscles and abolish chin fat.

Chin Up

This facial exercise for the chin works the skin and muscles around your chin to get rid of a double chin. Hold your hands in front of your face, palms in. Bend your fingers inward so they form a sort of table, with your hands in a 90-degree angle. Place your hands under your chin. Smile widely and open your mouth, extending your lower jaw out while stretching your tongue to the top of your mouth and curling it back so the bottom of your tongue lies on the roof of your mouth. Use your hand table and resist the movement of your jaw as you open your mouth. Resist with your jaw as you push up with your hands to close your mouth. Hold each position for five seconds and then release.

Throat

Exercising the muscle at the front of your neck will help reduce a double chin. Lie face up on your bed with your head hanging off the edge and your neck resting just on the edge. Use your neck muscles to lift your chin up toward your torso. Pause for 10 seconds before relaxing and returning to the starting position. Repeat five times daily.

Neck

This neck stretch exercise will work the front and sides of your neck to help you get rid of a double chin. Sit or stand with your spine straight. Keep your chin steady and slowly turn your head to the left. Keep turning your head until you feel it stretching slightly. Hold for five seconds, then slowly return to the starting position. Relax, then repeat the same movement on the right side. Repeat three times daily.

Chin and Mouth

This exercise uses the chin muscles to move your lips, helping to strengthen and tone your chin. Sit up straight and lift your head until you are looking at the ceiling. Keep you lips closed but relax them so they aren’t pursed. When you are looking at the ceiling, move your lower lip over your top lip, stretching it as far as possible. You will feel your chin muscles working as you pull your lips up and your chin skin dimples. Hold for five seconds and repeat five times.

Gum Chewing

It may sound surprising, but the movement of chewing gum staves off a double chin. By making your jaw and facial muscles move, you prevent the buildup of excess fat and the resulting loose skin.
