Hot Springs Village is a gated community in Arkansas’ scenic Ouachita Mountains. The resort village has recreational lakes, golf courses, tennis courts, a swimming and fitness center and many miles of nature trails. It is an ideal place to live an active lifestyle, and it is just 20 minutes away from historic Hot Springs National Park.
Golfing
Hot Springs Village golf courses offer well-maintained facilities at nine courses with affordable greens fees. The golf professionals on staff offer lessons, and a computerized tee time reservation system allows players to plan ahead. Many of the courses are ranked among the best in Arkansas and have pro shops, dining facilities and clubhouses.
Lake Activities
There are numerous man-made lakes with a wide range of things to do. All lakes have boating and fishing in waters that are stocked by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Water sports include swimming, water skiing, canoeing and kayaking. The Balboa Marina, on the largest of the lakes, has a swimming beach, boat marina, water skiing and a giant screen television to watch sporting events.
Games and Fun
The De Soto Games Area has miniature golf, basketball, tennis, ping pong tables and a seasonal swimming pool. There is a large number of active community groups like the Bicycle Group, Bocce Club, Basketball for Seniors, Country Western Dance Club and Women’s Bowling. Lawn bowling is a popular activity, as is pickleball, a unique hybrid game that combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis.
Land and Water Fitness
The Coronado Center offers dance instruction, fitness equipment, tennis courts and jogging and walking trails. The Coronado is a full workout facility with weight and cardiovascular equipment and a walking track. All year there is swimming at the indoor pool in the Coronado Natatorium and Fitness Center. The Arthritis Foundation sponsors a special water exercise program geared toward people with arthritis and related conditions and taught by a trained instructor. A portable aquatic lift allows easy and safe access into the pool for those with a disability or mobility problems. There is a baby/wading pool, and swimming lessons are offered for children and adults.
Recreational Trails
More than 20 miles of structured trails within the community are designed for walking, cycling and golf car traffic and pass through wooded hills and past streams and lakes. Nature trails are reserved for foot traffic only so that walkers can enjoy the natural beauty in a peaceful environment. The Magellan Beaver Dam Trail traverses wetlands and permits observation of different species of birds, animals and reptiles. The Trails Committee hosts special walks several times a year.
Day Trips
The natural waters in Hot Springs National Park, just a 20 minute drive from the village, have been used for more than 200 years for medicinal and relaxation purposes. It is still possible to soak in the healing waters, and visitors can also stroll through historic buildings or take a scenic hike on one of the park’s 26 miles of trails. Camping is available at the Gulpha Gorge Campground inside the park or in Ouachita National Forest or at one of the area’s commercial campgrounds. Ouachita has hundreds of miles of trails for biking, horseback riding and hiking.
