Wearing a golf glove when you play golf can make your round more comfortable and improve your score. Swinging a golf club multiple times might create blisters and calluses on your hands that will hinder your play. A golf glove will prevent any painful hand problems and allow you to concentrate solely on golf. You don't want to choose a glove that is too thick and will cause you to lose your "feel" with your clubs. You also don't want it to be so tight that it cuts off circulation. There are a few easy steps involved in measuring your hand for just the right fit.
Step 1
Wrap a tape measure around your hand at the knuckles. Keep your fingers straight and thumb out of the way. If you are a right-handed golfer, measure your left hand, and if you shoot left, measure your right hand. These are the hands that typically get calloused and blistered. Record your measurement in inches.
Step 2
Visit your local golf retailer or sporting goods store. Different makes of glove may vary, but generally for women, 6 1/4 to 7 inches is extra small and 8 to 8 1/4 inches is large. For men, 7 3/4 to 8 inches is small and 9 1/4 to 9 1/2 inches is extra-large. There are charts that map various measurements and their corresponding sizes available at your golf retailer.
Step 3
Check the back of the packaging of the glove that interests you. Makes of glove that don't go by inches will have a small sizing chart on the back of the package. It will help you determine what size you should wear. Once you have determined the size you should have by either method, take the glove out of the package and try it on. It should be taut across the back and in the palm.
Step 4
Hold a golf club with your glove on and take a few practice swings. Also practice some chip shot swings and try to envision how the club will feel for short shots around the green.
Tips and Warnings
- There are two shapes of golf glove: regular and cadet. A regular glove is for regularly proportioned hands and cadet is for short fingers with a wider palm. Choose the one that suits your hand best.
