Flirting can come naturally for some people, but for others, it can seem like a mystifying ritual that has no rhyme or reason. Although women can have the same trouble with learning how to flirt, guys who are shy can be particularly prone to displaying awkwardness when they attempt to show interest and flirt with a girl. Flirting can be fun, though. Several tips can help guys grow comfortable with flirting, which can in turn lead to a relationship that is more serious.
Confidence
Flirting is more effective when a guy displays a confident demeanor. One way to help achieve this is to look at flirting as a way to meet potential friends. That can help take the pressure off--pressure that can lead to awkward conversation. A guy also can look at flirting as a way to get through a number of rejections before he finds someone compatible and receptive to the flirting. Expecting flirting to get turned aside, at least for a number of times before meeting success, can dampen the sting of rejection.
Conversation
A compliment functions as an opening flirtation. A traditional compliment focuses on a woman's appearance, but can relate to what the woman said. Whispering implies intimacy, and works as flirtatious behavior. Personal questions, especially about relationships, also function as flirtatious behavior. Laughter, when not overdone, adds to the flirting encounter.
Movements
Body movements and body language sometimes serve as modes of flirting. Hand gestures, especially ones that touch the body such as running fingers slowly through hair, can be a form of flirting, especially when catching the woman’s eyes. Lip movements, such as those that mimic kissing, may be the right flirting move for the right woman, but as with any form of flirting, it may not find a receptive audience. Other body movements that can be flirtatious include arching the eyebrows, licking lips, smiling seductively, lingering eye contact and winking.
Openings
Guys who want to flirt with girls need to be prepared to open the conversation, even after nonverbal flirtatious gestures back and forth. An open-ended question, such as asking about the girl’s interest in a particular topic allows, the girl an opportunity to answer in a number of ways and display her interest level. Waiting for the girl to open the conversation closes opportunities for additional flirting on the verbal level.
