Self-confidence isn't easy for some to come by. If you experience a routine lack of self-confidence in your daily lifestyle through work, school or peer-related environments, take a few simple steps to help boost your confidence in yourself and your abilities. Self-esteem and self-confidence take time and practice to develop. Feel better about yourself by learning how to deal with performance anxiety in various situations.

Think About Your Successes

According to Uncommon Knowledge, a program dealing with self-confidence issues, lack of self-confidence often results from lack of self-esteem. Think about the successful tasks or activities you've performed, and recognize that you have overcome situations where doubt or nervousness made you doubt yourself, such as learning to drive, passing a test or attending a job interview. Even if you don't succeed every time, you have overcome difficulties in the past and will continue to do so in the future.

Consider Yourself

Ilona Jerabek, Ph.D., a specialist in psychological testing, suggests focusing on yourself and not comparing yourself to others. Don't try to compete with your co-worker or other peers, but set your own goals and aspirations. Every person has his own strengths and weaknesses. Determine and focus on using your strengths to help you through difficulties. There's always going to be someone who can do something better than you, but you can do it better than someone else.

Just Do It

Stop procrastinating over something you don't really want to do, and just do it, suggests Uncommon Knowledge. The key to overcoming uncertainty and doubt is to take action and then follow through. Whether the task turns out well or not, half the battle is in making the decision to do something. Be proactive and prepare, then perform the task or duty to the best of your ability. You may not succeed the first time, but you've taken a big step forward by accepting your fears, uncertainties or doubts and deciding to take action anyway.

Positive Affirmation

Every day, make a list and repeat what you like most about yourself while you're getting ready for work, brushing your teeth or driving to work or school. The list can be short or long, but repeat it on a daily basis. When you find yourself thinking negative thoughts, think of your positive affirmation list, which may help restore your sense of self-confidence.

Visualize

Visualize yourself succeeding at your goals, suggests Jerabek. Anticipate the environment you may find yourself in and any potential distractions, and practice what you're going to say or do in your mind before you actually do it. If you have the chance, practice with a friend or family member to help take the uncertainty and fear out of your actions.
