If you find that your body odor is offensive, make sure your body odor is not the symptom of a serious illness. Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as trichomoniasis create bad body odor in women due to an abnormal discharge of fluids from the vagina. Bacterial vaginosis is an infection that also creates an offensive smelling discharge, but it is not sexually transmitted. Once you have established your bad body odor is not caused by an illness, use one or more of the various ways available to improve the way your body smells.
Step 1
Bathe or shower at least once a day to help control the formation of bacteria on your skin that cause bad body odor. Daily cleansing of the body will give you better body odor, especially if you wash yourself with a scented bar soap or a scented liquid soap or body wash. Use a body cleanser with a lasting scent, and wash your body with it thoroughly.
Step 2
Wash your hair often to have clean smelling hair and scalp. Use a scented shampoo and conditioner. If you use the unscented version, dab a little perfume on your temples for better body odor.
Step 3
Roll or spray deodorant on the skin under your arms to mask odor caused by perspiration. Use an antiperspirant to help stop underarm sweating. Choose a deodorant or antiperspirant that has a nice scent to it to get better body odor.
Step 4
Wipe the outside of your vaginal area with scented feminine cleansing cloths between washings to keep that area of the body clean smelling, if you are a woman. Feminine hygiene sprays should also be considered. Scented cleansers specifically designed for washing this area of the body should be used as well. Change sanitary pads frequently when you have your period, and wash the external vaginal area often during this time for a cleaner smell.
Step 5
Keep your breath smelling as clean as possible by passing up foods such as garlic and onions. These foods, as well as cigarettes, contribute to bad breath. If you do eat these foods and/or smoke, chew mint gum afterward or suck on a breath mint. Brush your teeth after meals, floss before going to bed and visit the dentist for regular cleanings so you do not develop gingivitis. Use mouthwash when you want to freshen your breath.
