The Evenflo Jenny Lind crib is designed such that when a child reaches 15 months of age, a parent can remove the dropside rail to convert the crib to a toddler bed. In this way, the crib remains useful when the child is old enough to walk and climb about. The conversion process is straightforward, requiring only basic hand tools to carry out; once complete, your child will be able to enjoy the independence of being able to enter and leave the bed at will.
Step 1
Remove the screws securing the dropside rods to the headboard and footboard. Lift the rods upward until the bottom ends come free of the “L” brackets and large bumper springs. Remove the large bumper springs and set them aside.
Step 2
Lift the dropside rods upward until the bottom ends come free of the bottom dropside rail, small bumper springs and latch brackets. Remove the small bumper springs and set them aside.
Step 3
Extract both dropside rods from the crib and set them aside. Lift the pins on the dropside rail free of the latch brackets. Remove the dropside rail and set it aside. Remove the screws securing the latch brackets to the crib, then remove the brackets and set them aside; repeat with the “L” brackets.
Step 4
Remove the mattress from the crib and set it aside. Grip both sides of the mattress support assembly, then lift the assembly upwards. Align the brackets on the rear edge of the assembly with one of the lower two sets of bracket slots, then insert the brackets into the slots. Lower the front edge of assembly into the matching set of bracket slots, then replace the mattress.
Tips and Warnings
- Use a full-size crib mattress that is at least 51 5/8 inches long, 27 1/4 inches wide and 6 inches thick. You can use wood putty to fill in the holes left behind after removing the latch and “L” brackets from the crib. After you have removed the dropside rail, tie the rods to the rail to ensure that all the pieces remain together, should you wish to reinstall the rail at a later date. The finished edge of the mattress support assembly should be facing outward when properly installed. When used as a toddler bed, the convertible crib is designed for children at least 15 months old with a maximum weight of 50 pounds.
- Do not attempt to convert a crib that uses a steel mattress support, as this may result in injury to the child; only convert models equipped with a wooden mattress support.
