Some alternative health practitioners believe that magnetic bracelets offer a variety of health benefits. According to Sensei Adam Rostocki, the manager of cure-back-pain.org, the use of magnets in health care dates back thousands of years, but there is still a lot on controversy about whether or not they are effective. Possible side effects related to magnets and magnetic therapy include memory loss, irregular heart beat, headaches, circulatory problems, cancer, auto-immune disease and changes in the body's pH.
Back Pain Relief
Some alternative health practitioners believe that the use of magnetic bracelets can reduce back pain. According to Rostocki, magnetic bracelets are commonly used to relieve back pain. Magnets are reputed to increase circulation, which brings more oxygen through the body and speeds up the body's waste removal process.
Although ongoing testing is being conducted in Japan, there has been no conclusive proof that magnetic bracelets can bring a complete and permanent end to chronic back pain. Consult with your physician before using magnetic bracelets, or any other magnetic jewelry, to relieve back pain. If you are pregnant or have a pace maker or internal defibrillator, do not use magnetic bracelets.
Arthritis Pain Relief
Recent studies in England indicate that the use of magnetic jewelry can help ease the pain caused by arthritis, writes Dr. Andrew Weil, the author of DrWeil.com, as well as many other health and wellness books. Some arthritis patients who have used magnetic bracelets have also noticed a decrease in the inflammation that often accompanies arthritis pain.
Although research shows that magnetic bracelets help relieve pain in some individuals, magnetic therapy does not work for everyone, writes Dr. Weil. Dr. Weil further cautions against the use of magnetic bracelets by those who are pregnant or have an insulin pump, a defibrillator or a liver infusion pump. Talk to a health care professional before using magnetic bracelets to ease arthritis pain. Discontinue use if you experience dizziness or nausea.
Increased Circulation
According to the Magnetic Therapy Council, a council consisting of registered nurses and magnetic therapy practitioners, wearing magnetic bracelets can increase circulation. Poor circulation can lead to an array of serious health conditions, such as high blood pressure, Reynaud's disease and arteriosclerosis. Symptoms of poor circulation include dizziness, varicose veins, migraine headaches and cold hands and feet. The Magnetic Therapy Council recommends wearing your bracelet seven days a week, 24 hours a day to experience maximum benefits.
Consult with your doctor before using magnetic bracelets to increase circulation. Magnetic bracelets should not be used to treat serious health problems, such as high blood pressure and arteriosclerosis.
