Two bodies of water, including the Rum River and Long Lake, give visitors a good reason to camp in Isanti, Minnesota. You’ll find boating, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, swimming and other outdoor recreational opportunities in the area. Several campgrounds offer both RV and tent campers a place to rest and rejuvenate for the next day’s activities.

Location

The town of Isanti, Minnesota is located just north of Minneapolis-St. Paul. The small town lies along the Rum River, giving both residents and visitors plenty of water-related activities to enjoy. The town also features more than 18 parks that offer a little of everything from soccer to kite flying to children’s playgrounds.

River Camping

Country Camping Tent and RV Park features campsites along the Rum River. The campground offers both tent and RV campsites, including several drive-through sites. Amenities include full hookups or electric and water only. You’ll also find restrooms with free showers, a dump station, laundry facility, wireless Internet access and propane. For recreation, head to the heated swimming pool or the children’s playground. The campground offers planned kayak and canoe trips on the Rum River, including all equipment and a shuttle service. Or use your own equipment and make arrangements with the campground for transportation. You can also rent tubes and float down the river. Fish from the shore or your boat for smallmouth bass or walleye.

Lakeside Camping

Sunrise Resort on Long Lake offers RV and tent camping sites near the lake. You can fish, golf or swim in the area. Amenities include electric and water hookups along with a restroom with showers. You’ll find a boat launch nearby so you can explore the lake in your canoe or kayak. Cast your line for trout or bass from the shores or your boat. The campground also offers quick access to the nearby Pond’s Golf Course.

Activities

Golf enthusiasts can play a round at the Sanbrook Golf Course. For walkers, Isanti offers 10 miles of easy paths, ranging in length from the .9-mile Railroad Loop to the 3.1-mile Center Loop. You can find plenty to do at Bluebird Park, which features nine soccer fields, a baseball diamond and a skate park. You’ll also find a playground and a trail system as well as large open spaces for a game of Frisbee, croquet or kite flying. Test your bike skills at the BMX Track. Helmets are required to use the track.

Preparation

Insect repellent comes in handy in the area, as does sunscreen and a hat. If you plan to fish, you'll need a Minnesota state fishing license, available in Isanti from sporting goods or bait and tackle shops. Groceries and other camping supplies are available in town.
