Causes of Frequent Urination When Sleeping

You wake up from a deep sleep only to find that the sheets you are sleeping on are soaking wet. It is not sweat; it is urine. Night time incontinence or nocturnal enuresior, more commonly known as bed-wetting, is a symptom of development and not a physical problem that can be addressed.

Failure to Recognize When Bladder is Full

Even the most developed child may have an accident from time to time, whether sleeping or not. This is a product of development. Because kids develop the skills needed to run their own bodies at different speeds, not all children will be aware of their bladder. Thus, going to bed with a full bladder with naturally cause them discomfort and can result in bed-wetting.

Small Bladder

This is another product of development. Children are small; whereas adults have a fully-developed bladder, children have small bladders. This means they cannot hold as much urine as an adult and thus often run into problems. Bladder size is closely related to a child's ability to recognize when the bladder is full.

Stress

The onset of a stressful situation can result in bed-wetting. Children are faced with so many big changes in their growing-up stages. Doctors are unsure of why stress can trigger night time incontinence.

Urinary Tract Infection

Urinary tract infections are quite common and one of the leading causes for frequent urination in adults as well as kids. Urinary tract infections cause the bladder walls to become inflamed, thus taking up what little space the bladder occupies. The loss of bladder space is just another reason why a child might wet the bed.
