According to Mayo Clinic.com, the most common causes of hair loss include hormonal changes, irritation and damage to the scalp and hair follicles. While hair loss is a gradual part of aging, it can be embarrassing for some people. However, there are home remedies that can help your hair grow faster. These treatments have not been evaluated or approved by the FDA, so talk to your doctor before starting any sort of self-treatment.
Ginger, Sage Essential Oil, Orange Essential Oil and Coconut Oil
According to Ann Worwood, author of "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy,” a mixture of fresh ginger, sage essential oil, orange essential oil and coconut oil can be applied to the scalp to help hair grow. To make and use the mixture, combine 1 tbsp. chopped fresh ginger, ½ tsp. sage essential oil, ½ tsp. orange essential oil and 12 tsp. coconut oil in a blender or food processor and puree for 10 to 15 seconds. Transfer the mixture to a small, clean container. Gently massage a small amount of the mixture onto the scalp and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse your hair with cool water and wash with your regular shampoo and conditioner. This treatment can be repeated daily unless you notice irritation or redness on the scalp. Unused parts of the mixture can be stored for 30 days in dark, cool place.
Black Pepper and Boiled Spinach
According to Jude C. Todd, author of “Jude's Herbal Home Remedies: Natural Health, Beauty & Home-Care Secrets,” a mixture of black pepper and boiled spinach can be applied to the scalp and roots of the hair to help re-grow hair and speed up the process of hair growth. To make and use this mixture, combine ½ cup boiled fresh spinach and 2 tsp. black pepper in a blender and process for 15 seconds until a thick paste is formed. Gently massage the paste onto the scalp and leave it on for one hour. Rinse your hair with cool water and wash with your regular shampoo and conditioner. This treatment can be repeated every day unless it bothers your scalp. Unused portions of the mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 72 hours.
Coconut Milk and Red Gram
According to Vasant Lad, author of "The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies,” a mixture of coconut milk and red gram can be applied to the scalp and roots of the hair to help hair grow faster. To make and use this mixture, combine 1 tbsp. red gram with 3 tbsp. coconut milk and stir to combine. Gently massage the mixture onto the scalp and leave it on for 20 minutes with a towel around your neck to prevent the mixture from dripping on your face and clothes. Rinse your hair with cool water and wash with your regular shampoo and conditioner. This treatment can be repeated twice per day as long as no irritation to the scalp occurs. Unused portions of this mixture can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours.
