Cincinnati is a city filled with a variety of fun activities to keep you busy, such as a nature center, an abundance of hiking trails and even a popular outdoor workout site. In addition to these activities, you can stock up on healthy fruit and vegetables at one of the numerous farmers markets in the city.

Nature Centers

Discover the wildlife, flora and fauna that surround the city of Cincinnati. This city has five publicly maintained nature centers. At these centers, you will find miles of nature trails that run past streams, through forest and across meadows filled with protected species of plants and trees, Depending on the time of year, expect to see birds, a variety of wildlife, tulips, maple trees and flowering dogwoods along the trails. Several centers offer guided tours and have educational exhibits at the nature center.

Work Out

Cincinnati’s Hillside Steps are a popular destination for recreational use. These 400 sets of stairways are often used by hikers, walkers and joggers as part of an exercise routine. At the top of the steps, take a moment and enjoy the unique viewpoint of the city of Cincinnati. Cincinnati’s Fleet Feet Sports is known for its group runs. This organization meets four days a week at Fleet Feet Sports on Kenwood Road. Runs are designed for runners and walkers of all fitness levels. If you are interested in working on yoga, stop by the Cincinnati Yoga School. This studio offers Mysore, Vinyasa, Astanga, Pranayama and meditation classes. The studio is open seven days a week.

Hiking

Throughout Cincinnati are numerous parks that feature miles of hiking trails. These trails range in difficulty. There are trails with few steps and little elevation change that are ideal for beginner hikers, and there are strenuous trails that feature stone steps and steep hills. Consider meeting up with the Mt. Airy Forest Hiking Club on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays at Everybody’s Treehouse for a guided hike. Hikes last between 30 minutes to 1¼ hours and are free.

Farmers Markets

If you are looking for healthy and fresh food while in Cincinnati, consider stopping by one of the local farmers markets. Head to the Strauss & Troy Market on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a bounty of fresh, local produce. This market features fruits, vegetables, herbs, fresh flowers, coffees, smoothies, prepackaged meals, breads, crafts and jewelry. Other markets in the city include the Newtown Farmers’ Market, which is open seven days a week from April through December, and the Northside Farmer's Market, which is open year-round on Wednesday afternoons.

Walking Tour

Take in the sights of Cincinnati by foot while on a guided tour of Cincinnati. Take a two-hour guided tour from the Cincinnati Preservation Association, which leads you through of historical buildings in downtown Cincinnati. Sites include Fountain Square, Central Trust Bank Tower and the Ingalls Building. This tour begins at the Contemporary Arts Center. In addition to the downtown walking tour, the association offers tours of Findlay Market, Over-the-Rhine, Clifton and Mount Adams.
