Crying, sleeping on your face and fatigue are common causes of puffy eyes. An old wives' tale says that placing tea bags on your eyes can help reduce puffiness; unlike many of these tales, this one happens to be true. The tannins found in black and green tea constrict the blood vessels and tighten the skin around your eyes, reducing puffiness and rejuvenating your look so you're ready to face the world with a bright-eyed look.
Step 1
Place the tea bags in a mug. Add boiling water from a kettle and let the tea bags steep for between three to five minutes.
Step 2
Use a spoon to remove the tea bags from the mug. Use another spoon or the tag at the end of the tea bag string to press down on the tea bags and remove excess liquid.
Step 3
Place the tea bags in the refrigerator to cool. Check them every 10 minutes until they reach a comfortable temperature.
Step 4
Remove from refrigerator and wrap each tea bag in a tissue or thin piece of cloth.
Step 5
Lie down and close your eyes. Place one tea bag over each eye and leave in place for up to 15 minutes.
