Cellulite can affect anybody, no matter their age or weight. Even thin people can get cellulite, as the process depends more on body composition than weight. According to Bodybuilding.com, about 90 percent of women have at least some degree of cellulite. While no miracle cure exists for the problem, a number of things can help to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Diet and Exercise

According to Bodybuilding.com, a low-fat diet plus a comprehensive exercise program are the best ways to get rid of cellulite. By reducing the amount of body fat in your body and increasing muscle mass, you will tone up the underlying muscles and reduce the dimpled appearance of cellulite on your skin. Bodybuilding.com recommends using light weights and 15 or more repetitions, with just a few seconds of break between sets. Cutting down the intake of fats in your diet also will help. Stick to healthier fats, such as olive or sunflower oil, when using them in your diet. Stay away from high-fat, highly processed foods such as chips and other snacks and fast food dishes.

Endermologie

Endermologie is a type of massage done with a suction device that rolls and compresses the affected tissue. Endermologie has been approved by the FDA as an effective temporary treatment for cellulite. As the roller moves over the skin, it destroys fat cells and relieves the tissue of any fluid accumulation, causing a more smooth appearance. It takes at least 10 visits to a treatment center before you see any difference, and once you achieved the desired results, you’ll be required to keep it up with one or two maintenance treatments per month.

Home Care

Despite the many ads, no magic cure exists for home treatment of cellulite. The Mother Nature website recommends a combination of techniques to help reduce the bumpy appearance, although results will vary and whether you see improvement or not depends on your own personal case. Keeping your body hydrated is a good start, as is reducing the amount of caffeine you consume. Salt leads to water retention, which can worsen the appearance of cellulite. Mother Nature also recommends dry-brushing your skin to improve circulation.
