If you have acne-prone or sensitive skin, there are specific ways to wash your face to not irritate your skin. Determine if the skin-care products you currently use are appropriate for you: the Environmental Working Group has a large database that enables you to identify skin-care products that are non-toxic.
You also can consider using plant, vegetable and nut oils along with liquid soaps and non-soap cleansers.
Castille Soap
Pull back your hair from your face and use a gentle liquid castille soap free of fragrances and colors to reduce the risk of skin irritation. Avoid scrubbing acne or sensitive skin; instead, lightly move soapy suds over your skin and splash off with water to clear soap completely. If you are allergic to soap, use a non-soap cleanser, such as Cetaphil or its generic twin.
Lemon Juice, Apple Cider Vinegar
Oily skin may produce too much sebum, which is naturally made by the body. Use lemon juice diluted with water or even apple cider vinegar as an astringent. This is to remove excessive sebum without stripping the skin. Rinse your face again.
Tea Tree Essential Oil and Jojoba Oil
Dab tea tree essential oil sparingly on acne areas and not on delicate undereye skin. Extracted from plants, flowers and herbs, essential oils are found in many commercial skin-care products or they can be purchased as single oils.
Seal in moisture using jojoba oil, a plant wax that is very similar to sebum oil. Use a clean cotton ball to sweep it over your skin: it is somewhat heavy, so apply lightly. It has a sun protection factor of about eight. Apply your regular sunscreen if you sunburn easily.
