What to Eat on a Detox Diet

The air we breath. The places we work and hang out. The things we eat. All these are factors in the build up of toxins in our body. Typically, when you plan to detox your body, your diet should consist of very little food. Fasting and lots of fluids are the recommended techniques for doing a thorough cleanse of your body. But you can also detoxify and eat at the same time. It's just a matter of what you eat.

What Not to Eat

Detox diets are fairly restrictive about what you can eat. Most tell you not to eat. But if you're going to eat while detoxing your body, you should know that there are certain things that doctors recommend you avoid. High-protein meats, sugars, grains, dairy and caffeine have a higher percentage of toxins and therefore are discouraged.

Fiber

According to alive.com, the average adult consumes somewhere around 10 grams of fiber in a day. For a true cleansing diet that number should be somewhere between 20 and 35 grams. FIber can be found in all types of food, from fruits and vegetable to whole grains, nuts and beans. Flax seed, in particular, contains amazing amounts of fiber. Fiber serve two very specific purposes in a detoxification diet. One, they work to sweep out the colon, clearing away toxins. Secondly, the keep you from being constipated so you can have no problems getting rid of the solid wastes.

Greens

Food full of chlorophyll is also helpful in a detoxification diet. Alfalfa, wheat grass, and blue algae are just a few of these so called green foods. Green food performs one very important task when it comes to detoxification. It gives the body the opportunity to manufacture additional oxygen, which has the ability to draw additional toxins.
