What Vitamins Promote Hair Growth?

Your hair can be seen as a larger indicator of your overall health. According to Dr. George Obikoya, things like diet, exposure to smoke, stress and the sun work together to destroy hair follicles with the greatest of ease. Typically, people turn to hair regrowth treatments and even surgery in an effort to regrow their hair and reinvigorate their appearance. But those are not necessarily the only options. Vitamins have been shown to be effective in not only keeping the hair you currently possess, but regrow the hair that was lost.

Adding Vitamins to Your Diet

If you have the proper amount of vitamins and minerals coursing through your system, your hair is going to reflect that. Hair growth is a product of either increased blood flow to the scalp and follicles or a proper nutrient base. Adding vitamin supplements will help to provide your hair with what it needs to grow. Nothing is more vital to your hair than the right blend of B vitamins and amino acids. Certain minerals like magnesium, sulfur, silica and zinc can also be helpful.

The Proper Vitamin Mix

Dr. Obikoya recommends the following vitamins be taken to promote a healthy scalp and the growth of hair:
Vitamin B-complex and Vitamin B-6 (50mg daily)
Vitamin C (1 to 2g daily)
Vitamin E (400 to 800 IU daily)
Beta-Carotene (10,000 to 15,000 IU daily)
Along with the vitamins, a daily dose of magnesium, zinc, silica and sulfur should be taken.

The Science of Metabolic Pathways

According to the medical dictionary, a metabolic pathway is defined as a structure through which impulse pass between cells. To put it in terms of your head of hair, metabolic pathways are the routes all the nutrients we feed in to our bodies take to reach the follicles.
