Dandruff is a disease of the scalp defined by the quick death and replacement of cells. When these cells build up, you get irritation, itchiness and scalp flaking. There are many ways to treat dandruff, including a variety of shampoos specifically designed to help with the problem, and home cures such as lime and dill weed cleansing. Another form of dandruff control is through herbal remedies.
Herbal Remedies for Dandruff
Step 1
Make a South African hair paste. To do so, boil a cup of water. While boiling the water, add in fresh wild scabious roots and 1 tbsp. of borax. Boil for 10 minutes. Mash the concoction into a paste, and then cover the scalp for 10 to 15 minutes. Do this once a week until the problem is solved. The ingredients should be available at a health-food store.
Step 2
Make an aromatherapy oil. You will need 7 drops of cedarwood and 10 drops each of cypress and juniper oils. Mix with 50 ml carrier oil. Rub the oil mixture into the scalp and leave it for an hour. Once finished, rinse your hair with a mild shampoo and wash with warm water. To control the dandruff, make a rinse using the same amount of oil mixed into 600 ml of warm water.
Step 3
Use aloe. You may have aloe vera in your home. Split three stalks of the plant lengthwise down the center. Pull out the aloe, using a knife. Take the gel omitted by the aloe plant and rub it into your scalp. Wait a half hour, and wash your hair with a gentle shampoo.
