The Ascensia Contour is a home blood glucose meter made by Bayer HealthCare. It offers diabetic patients a simple way to test their blood sugar because it doesn’t require users to code the monitor. It is available in five colors and provides test results in five short seconds.
Basic Mode
Step 1
Wash your hands thoroughly using warm soapy water. Blood glucose testing requires a finger prick, and thorough hand washing prior to the test will reduce chances of infection.
Step 2
Insert a lancet into the meter by first removing the end of the lancing device. Hold the lancing device in one hand and, using a downward motion, press the end until it pops off. Insert the lancet into the device until it clicks into place. Twist the round protective end off the lancet and replace the end of the lancing device.
Step 3
Insert a test strip into the Contour monitor. The gray end of the test strip goes into the monitor, gray side up. The monitor will turn on when the test strip has been inserted properly.
Step 4
Prick your fingertip using the prepared lancing device by pressing the end of the device to your desired finger and pressing the release button.
Step 5
Touch the drop of blood to the test strip until you hear the meter beep. The beep indicates that a sufficient blood sample has been received to perform the test.
Step 6
Read your test results after five seconds on the monitor screen.
Step 7
Remove the test strip by pulling straight out and remove the lancet.
Advanced Mode
Step 1
Insert a meal marker by pressing the up or down arrows on the front of the monitor after the test result is displayed. An icon in the shape of a whole apple will begin to flash to indicate a premeal reading. Press "M" to set the result as a premeal result. Using this advanced mode will automatically launch a series of other features including test reminders and post-meal markers.
Step 2
Set a test reminder for your post-meal test by pressing the "M" button when the alarm clock icon flashes following the insertion of the premeal marker. Your monitor will then alert you when it is time to test again.
Step 3
Set a post-meal marker after you have completed your post-meal glucose test by pressing the "M" button when the apple core icon automatically appears.
Step 4
Set a unique test result any time your test is unrelated to a meal by pressing the up or down arrows until the book icon displays, then press "M" to save.
