If you are pressed for time or money, there are a number of ways to get a full workout in the privacy of your own home. While home exercise machines are an option, with just a few small fitness items and a bit of creativity, you can create your own home exercise center without spending an exorbitant amount of money.
Using a Swivel Chair for Oblique Exercise
Since many people now have home computers, they often have swivel chairs in their homes. These chairs can be used to exercise the oblique muscles, which run diagonally across your abdomen. Sit on the chair and hold on to your desk. Keeping a stable upper body, swivel your hips from side to side. This can be done with your feet lifted or on the floor.
Using Your Couch or Bed for Exercise
You can intensify, and add balance training to the lunge exercise by placing either the front leg or the rear leg on your bed or couch. You can also put your feet on the bed or couch to intensify your abdominal crunches, and add depth to your push-ups by performing them with your feet on the bed.
Using Your Linoleum Floor for Inner Thigh Exercises
Place a hand towel or a paper plate under your right foot. Allow your left knee to bend as you slide your right leg out to the side. Then contract your right inner thigh and drag the leg back in. Perform 12 repetitions and then switch legs. This works really well on a newly waxed floor.
Balls and Resistance Bands
Stability balls can be used in conjunction with exercise balls to mimic the movements of an exercise machine. For example, you can sit on a ball with your knees bent and wrap a resistance band around your feet. Straighten your legs as you perform a rowing movement.
Exercise Videos
Exercises videos are a good way to get a bit of guidance about technique and exercise modifications. To avoid boredom and burnout, be sure to alternate between a few different videos.
