Using a shampoo that contains vitamins is essential for hair growth, protection and strength. Hair needs vitamins just as your body does. A good shampoo and conditioner is vitamin fortified. Before you toss a bottle of shampoo in your cart, read the label. There are certain vitamins that can help you grow long, strong, beautiful hair but surprisingly, not all shampoos contain these vitamins.

B-Complex Vitamins

B-complex vitamins are essential for hair growth. According to Drugs.com, you just need to apply a small amount of shampoo to your hair. Lather and work the shampoo thoroughly throughout your hair from root to tip to ensure the entire hair shaft receives all of the vitamins. B-complex vitamins aid in hair growth. B-complex vitamins are water-soluble, which means your body doesn't store them. So you need to replenish B-complex vitamins daily.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E contains antioxidant properties that play a crucial role in hair growth and is a fat-soluble vitamin, meaning your body stores vitamin E in fat for later use. Because vitamin E is fat-soluble, there's not as much of a need to replace the vitamin daily. The Mayo Clinic says that a vitamin E deficiency is extremely rare. Although vitamin E is important for your hair, the Mayo Clinic cautions against a high consumption of vitamin E. There have been fatalities linked to overdoses. According to PubMed.gov, Ohio State University has tracked a list of ingredients that are commonly found in many shampoos and has compiled a list of the ingredients that people are most allergic to. Vitamin E is on the list of common allergies for many Americans, although it's low on the list that appears in order from most common to least common. PubMed.gov recommends testing a small amount of shampoo on your skin before applying it to your hair and scalp to ensure an allergic reaction doesn't occur.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is also a water-soluble vitamin, so your body doesn't store it. According to MedlinePlus, vitamin C is essential for the growth and repair of your hair and all other tissues in your body, such as skin. MedlinePlus also says vitamin C has antioxidant properties as well, which is essential for your hair and body. Without vitamin C, your hair can become dry and splitting can occur, as well as rough, dry, scaly skin. Using a shampoo that contains vitamin C can help keep your hair and scalp healthy and possibly prevent dandruff.
