Speedball is a game that evolved from the sport of paintball. The game is an extreme sport and is highly competitive. It uses a field that consists of two halves that are mirrored with an equal amount of barriers and obstacles on both sides. Speedball features a system of points-tracking with players being eliminated from the game once they become marked. If you are looking to take your game to the next level, there are some tips to keep in mind.
Watch Your Gear
When comparing speedball to paintball, the obstacles and barriers are smaller, the game is faster and you don't have room for additional gear when playing speedball. Take extra precautions to make sure that any extra packs or clips are secured to yourself in some way and only carry the items that you need for the match. In speedball competitions, if you get shot in your gear, you will be eliminated. Carrying more gear than necessary will only make you a larger target. After every match, be sure to thoroughly clean your packs, clips and guns. You should not use a damaged tool during game play under any circumstances. A damaged gun or clip can cause injuries to you or other players. Your goggles should always be kept clean, but should never be removed during an active game. Since some speedball games require certain guns, make sure you have the correct gear before playing. Some competitions band the use of automatic trigger systems or electronic markers. If your gear has any of these, your team may be disqualified.
Communicate
Communicating with your squad is one of the most important aspects in speedball. If you want to have any chance of winning the game, your team must perform as one cohesive unit. Before the game begins, the team should get together to nominate one player as the squad leader. This player will be the one who makes all of the tactical decisions. You should never attempt to be a maverick or lone wolf on the field as this will typically lead to your team being outgunned and outnumbered. If you do not agree with the leader who has been chosen, play the game anyway and then offer your suggestions at the completion of the match. Never try to change the order of the leader on the field.
Keep Your Head Down
The barriers that are used in speedball are much smaller than those used in paintball, so they are far less concealing. Because of this, you have to be much more vigilant if you want to keep a low profile. Try to stay as close to the ground as possible. Look around the sides of barriers, but never raise your head to look over the top. By peeking around the sides, your face and head becomes a much smaller target. When you are on the move, never take your eyes off of your next position. Use your other senses to keep track of what threats are in the immediate area. If an opponent gives away their position, don't hesitate to drop where you are and return fire.
