According to the Mayo Clinic, baldness is most commonly caused by hormonal changes due to aging or irritation or damage to the scalp or hair follicles. While medical treatments for baldness or widely available, they can be expensive, and in some cases they may have unwanted side effects. However, there are some home remedies for male baldness that can help you to slow the hair loss process and re-grow hair. These treatments have not been evaluated by the FDA however, so talk to your doctor before starting one.
Egg Whites, Olive Oil, Fresh Rosemary and Orange Essential Oil
According to Ann Worwood, author of "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy,” a mixture of egg whites, olive oil, fresh rosemary and orange essential oil can be applied to the scalp as a remedy for male baldness to help hair regenerate. To make and use this mixture, combine 1 egg white, 1 tbsp. olive oil, ½ tbsp. freshly chopped rosemary and 1/4 tsp. orange essential oil and stir to combine. Apply this mixture to the scalp and leave it on for one hour with a towel around your neck to prevent dripping. Rinse the scalp with cool water and wash with your regular cleanser. This treatment can be repeated twice per day unless you notice irritation or extreme redness.
Nettle Leaves, Rosemary Essential Oil and Jojoba Oil
According to Ann Worwood, a mixture of nettle leaves, rosemary essential oil and jojoba oil can be applied to the scalp as a topical treatment for baldness. To make this mixture, combine 2 tbsp. nettle leaves with 1 tsp. rosemary essential oil and 10 tsp. jojoba oil in a blender and puree on high speed until the mixture makes a thin paste. Gently massage a small amount of the mixture onto the scalp and leave it on for 30 minutes. Rinse the scalp with cool water and wash with your regular shampoo or soap. This treatment can be applied every day unless it irritates your scalp or has adverse effects. Unused portions of this mixture can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours if needed.
Neem Oil and Tea Tree Oil
According to Vasant Lad, author of "The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies,” a mixture of neem oil and tea tree oil can be applied to the scalp to help fight baldness. To make and use this mixture, combine one part neem oil with two parts tea tree oil in a container and stir or shake to thoroughly combine. Apply a thin layer of the mixture to the scalp and leave it on for 40 to 45 minutes with a towel around your shoulders to prevent dripping. Rinse the scalp with cool water and wash with your regular cleanser. This treatment can be repeated every day in the morning and evening unless you notice irritation and redness, and portions made in advance will keep in a cool, dark place for up to one week.
