If you are a teen looking to lose weight quickly, you should avoid fad diets and fasting to drop the pounds. According to the Teen's Health website sponsored by the Nemours Foundation, this type of dieting typically causes all of the weight lost to pile back on. Instead, making healthy food and exercise choices on a daily basis will help you drop the weight quickly and keep it off. The teen’s physician should be consulted before starting a new diet and exercise plan.
Step 1
Eat a low-fat and high-protein breakfast each morning. This jump starts your metabolism and keeps you from binging later on in the day because of hunger. Some meal ideas include egg whites and whole grain toast, whole grain bagel and low-fat cream cheese, and high-fiber cereal sprinkled with nuts.
Step 2
Cut portion sizes. You need to reduce the number of calories you eat each day if you want to lose weight. You can do this by eating smaller portions at each meal and choosing low calorie foods.
Step 3
Spend 60 minutes exercising each day. You do not need to spend 60 minutes consecutively exercising if you don’t have the time. Instead, you can break it up into shorter bursts throughout the day. Aerobic activity you can participate in include jogging, cycling, swimming, basketball and tennis.
Step 4
Work in more exercise to drop the weight quickly. Some examples include walking home from school, biking to your friend’s house and taking your dog for a run.
Step 5
Consume only healthy snacks. Although an occasional indulgence may not hurt your diet, eat mostly fruit and veggies as snacks to lose weight quickly. Some quick on-the-go snack ideas are pepper slices, apples and reduced-fat peanut butter, and strawberries and yogurt. Cookies, candies and chips add empty calories and can hinder reaching your weight loss goal.
Step 6
Drink mostly water. If you want to lose weight quickly, avoid drinking soda with every meal. Soda can add hundreds of calories per day to a teen’s diet, states the Mayo Clinic. Along with water, unsweetened tea and low fat milk are acceptable beverages.
