Strange Body Sensations
Medline Plus explains that abnormal body sensations can occur when Celexa is stopped abruptly. This can include strange tingling in the extremities. It can also include numbness in different parts of the body. These sensations can make one feel like they need to move their arms or legs when trying to go to sleep. Although this sensation is very uncomfortable, it will subside as the withdrawal symptoms begin to lessen in a few days.
Mood Swings
Mood swings are to be expected when Celexa is stopped abruptly. The United States Food and Drug Administration gives the warning that people who suddenly stop taking Celexa without consulting their doctors could have thoughts of suicide. These people could also experience extreme hostility, sadness or confusion. Anxiety is a common occurrence, as well. These symptoms will become less evident with time.
Antidepressant Discontinuation Syndrome
Antidepressant discontinuation syndrome is a serious medical side effect that develops when antidepressants are stopped suddenly. Symptoms of antidepressant discontinuation syndrome include flu-like symptoms such as fever, nausea and body aches. This syndrome can also include runny nose and sore throat. According to American Family Physician, around 20 percent of all patients who stop taking antidepressants too quickly will suffer from antidepressant discontinuation syndrome.
