Aloe vera is a natural product used for a number of medicinal purposes. The aloe vera plant produces a clear gel from inside its leaves with a cooling effect. The Mayo Clinic states that studies support the use of aloe to heal wounds and reduce skin inflammation. There is less clinical data to demonstrate aloe vera gel as an ingredient for a hair conditioner. However, Care2 states that in her book, “Naturally Healthy Hair,” author Mary Beth Janssen provides a formula for aloe vera hair conditioner that may seal in moisture and improve hair quality.

Step 1

Slice a lemon in half, and squeeze out the juice into a mixing bowl.

Step 2

Add aloe vera gel to the bowl, and mix the two ingredients together.

Step 3

Select a number of essential oils to add with the conditioner. The website Care2 suggests selecting oils based on your hair type. Chamomile works well for fine to normal hair, basil will promote hair growth and myrrh is good for dry hair and scalp. Add three to five drops of the selected essential oils, and mix the ingredients.

Step 4

Shampoo hair, and apply the conditioning mixture from the bowl. Dip your fingers into the conditioner, and work it through hair, beginning at the scalp and moving over the hair strands.

Step 5

Leave the conditioner on for five minutes, and then rinse out with warm water. For an added touch, give your hair one final rinse with cool water to enhance shine.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 lemon
  • Knife
  • Mixing bowl
  • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel
  • Spoon
  • Essential oils
  • Shampoo
