Campers who are looking to tent camp around Leech Lake in Minnesota have many options, as most of the campgrounds allow at least a few sites just for tents. Tent camping, slightly more inexpensive, will still allow campers to take advantage of the many offerings of large campgrounds and RV resorts.

Shores of Leech Lake Yacht Club

The Shores of Leech Lake Yacht Club allows tent camping in designated areas, but only at specific times of the year. Tent camping is allowed on the lighthouse point during the Leech Lake Regatta, and it is also allowed at anytime of the year to friends and family of seasonal customers. Tents are also allowed on the seasonal sites for friends and family.

Since the Yacht Club is more upscale than many typical campgrounds, there are activities available such as Saturday morning yoga on the Lighthouse Point, Saturday morning massage in the lighthouse and sailboat charters. There's also boating, fishing tournaments, country music festivals, potlucks and other festivals to bring the campers together.

Acorn Hill

Acorn Hill allows tent camping throughout the resort. When campers are not in their tents, they can enjoy the sandy beach, boating, fishing, water slide, water trampoline, heated swimming pool or hot tub. If the water skiing, paddle boating and kayaking are not enough to wear your campers out, go ice fishing, use the giant rainbow playground, play shuffleboard, horseshoes, basketball or volleyball. Go hiking or enjoy the exercise area.

Birch Ridge Resort

The Birch Ridge Resort allows campers to pitch a tent so they can enjoy the protected harbor, pier fishing or swimming, basketball, horseshoes or croquet. There is a small children's beach, paddleboats and canoeing. Rollerblading is also allowed on the paved road throughout the resort. The resort is also nationally known for its fishing area. Thursday night is fish appreciation night with a fish fry for the campers with fish donated by the fishermen.

Woodland Resort

There are four tent campsites available at the Woodland Resort on Kabekona Bay of Leech Lake. Campers have the option to hike miles of the Paul Bunyan State Trail which passes through the resort, spend time at the beach or swimming area and enjoy the water trampoline and swimming raft. There is also harbor fishing and a playground to keep the little ones busy.

Anderson's Cove

Although cabin camping fills most of this campground, Anderson's Cove does have several sites available for tent camping. Campers can play basketball, volleyball, canoeing or paddleboating. There are playgrounds and a heated pool and kiddie pool to keep the little one's busy. Hiking and biking and bonfires by the beach allow parents to stay active while the kids take part in treasure hunts, sand castle contests, turtle races, scavenger hunts and water balloon tosses.
