Kidneys provide an essential function in the human body by removing waste products and excess fluid. The organs also regulate the amount of salt, acid content and potassium that is in the body and produce certain hormones that impact function of other organs. Making sure your kidneys are healthy allows them to continue these invaluable functions. Several natural remedies can aid in kidney energy. Remember to talk to your physician before using any type of alternative medicine.

Horny Goat Weed

Horny Goat Weed is a traditional herb used in Chinese medicine, also referred to as "yin yan huo." The plant primarily grows in south central China and in some parts of Korea. According to the University of Michigan Health System website, flavonoids in Horny Goat Weed make the herb a beneficial treatment for kidney health by stimulating the immune system. Taken regularly, Horny Goat weed can improve kidney function, says the site, especially for people with kidney disease undergoing dialysis. Horny Goat Weed is usually mixed with a water concoction and or can be taken as a capsule.

Cranberry

This popular herb is commonly used in various juices and foods, along with being regularly used for liver, kidney and stomach health. According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine website, cranberry is helpful in preventing urinary tract infections, an often painful infection related to the kidneys. Cranberries also have both antioxidant and anti-cancer properties and helps boost kidney function. Cranberry can be made into capsules or drunk as a juice. Remember however, it is recommended to first see a health care specialist if you believe you have a urinary tract infection.

Schisandra

According to the "National Geographic Desk Reference to Nature's Medicine," schisandra is a traditional herb used in Chinese medicine for overall health.The Asian vine grows all across the globe and is frequently used as a ginseng substitute. Schisandra treats various medical conditions, including kidney problems and according to the book, and promotes general health of kidneys.
