Mega T green tea capsules are promoted as weight loss aids, antioxidant supplements and energy enhancers. No independent studies have evaluated Mega T's benefits compared to other green tea products, but extensive research supports the use of green tea as a component of a healthy diet. Despite the many benefits associated with green tea supplements, anyone with a medical condition should consult a health care provider before using them. Mega T contains caffeine and may trigger side effects such as anxiety, heart palpitations, insomnia and dependence.

Antioxidant

The University of Maryland Medical Center regards green tea as a potent source of antioxidants. Mega T supplements contain a high concentration of polyphenols, which are among the most powerful antioxidants known to science. Each seving of Mega T contains 90 milligrams of polyphenols in the form of epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG. This amount is roughly equivalent to the 80 to 100 milligrams found in an average cup of green tea.The UMMC suggests that polyphenols can neutralize free radicals, highly reactive oxygen molecules that damage human cells. Regular supplementation with Mega T products may help to prevent DNA damage and cell death from pollutants, cigarette smoke and stress.

Weight Loss

Mega T products are extensively advertised as natural weight loss pills, but there is not yet enough evidence to prove their efficacy. According to the National Institutes of Health, several small-scale studies have suggested that green tea extract pills can improve weight loss and weight maintenance in overweight people. One study, published in 2005 by the medical journal "Obesity Research", confirmed that caffeinated green tea supplements enhance weight loss in overweight people, although the effects are less significant in people who consume caffeine on a regular basis. More studies are needed to determine the overall efficacy of Mega T as a long-term weight loss solution.

Cancer Prevention

The long-term use of Mega T supplements may help to prevent some forms of cancer. Although studies are inconclusive, the UMMC regards green tea as a possible preventative for breast, ovarian, stomach, bladder, lung, esophogeal, prostate, pancreatic, skin and colorectal cancer. Green tea supplements like Mega T may help to reduce the risk of these illnesses, they can not replace the role of a healthy lifestyle. Consult your health care provider if you believe you are at risk of developing any form of cancer.

Anti-Inflammatory

Polyphenols in Mega T green tea capsules can help to reduce inflammation. According to the NIH, green tea may ease inflammation from arthritis and asthma. The UMMC additional acknowledges green tea's efficacy as a complementary treatment for inflammatory bowel disease. In theory, Mega T could be used to relieve inflammatory pain in a manner similar to anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen. However, there is not enough evidence to firmly support this use.

Stimulant

Mega T green tea supplements contain caffeine, a powerful stimulant. This product may help to boost energy levels before a workout or a tedious day at work, but regular green tea users quickly develop a tolerance for its caffeine content. The NIH notes that caffeinated green tea supplements may cause addiction, and withdrawal symptoms can include headache, fatigue and dry mouth. Additionally, stimulants such as Mega T may trigger insomnia and anxiety, particularly in high doses.

Additional Ingredients

Mega T products contain additional ingredients not found in conventional green tea products; these may enhance the benefits associated with the supplement. Each serving of Mega T contains 100 milligrams of calcium, which helps to support bone strength. Additionally, the product includes 250 micrograms of the trace mineral chromium, which may help to accelerate weight loss. Although Mayo Clinic regards chromium as a safe supplement ingredient, the clinic reports that there is insufficient evidence of its effectiveness. Other unproven herbs, including kelp and garcinia, are also included in Mega T in unspecified amounts.
