While pimples and zits are more common on oily skin, people who have dry skin do get them as well, and many medical treatments are drying, making the problem worse. However, there are some home remedies that can help to treat pimples and acne while addressing the dry skin problem at the same time. These remedies have not been approved by the FDA though, so talk with your dermatologist or doctor before starting any new home treatment.

Vegetable Glycerin and Lime Juice

According to Julie Gabriel, author of "The Green Beauty Guide: Your Essential Resource to Organic and Natural Skin Care, Hair Care, Makeup, and Fragrances,” a mixture of vegetable glycerin and lime juice can help to clear up pimples and acne on dry skin while adding essential moisture. To make and use this mixture, combine 1 tbsp. vegetable glycerin with 1 ½ tbsp. freshly squeezed lime juice and stir to combine. Gently massage the mixture onto the skin and leave it on for 30 minutes. Rinse your skin with cool water and wash with a gentle cleanser before applying your regular moisturizer. This treatment can be repeated daily unless you notice extreme irritation or redness, and unused portions of the mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for 48 hours.

Lemon Juice, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter and Olive Oil

According to Jethro Kloss, author of "Back to Eden: Classic Guide to Herbal Medicine, Natural Food and Home Remedies Since 1939,” a mixture of lemon juice, shea butter, cocoa butter and olive oil can be applied to the skin to get rid of pimples and cure dry skin. To make and use this mixture, combine 1 tbsp. lemon juice with 2 tbsp. shea butter, 1 tbsp. cocoa butter and 1 tsp. olive and stir to combine. Gently massage a small amount of the mixture onto wet skin and leave it on for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until nearly dry. Rinse the mixture off with cool, clean water and wash with your regular soap. This treatment can be repeated daily as necessary unless it bothers your skin. Unused portions can be stored in the refrigerator for 48 hours.

Tomato Essential Oil and Coconut Oil

According to Ann Worwood, author of "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy,” a mixture of tomato essential oil and coconut oil can be used to help clear up acne and zits on dry skin. To make and use this mixture, combine 1 tsp. tomato essential oil with 10 tsp. coconut oil in a bottle or jar and shake to combine. Pour a small amount of the mixture onto a clean cotton pad and dab the mixture onto the skin. Leave the liquid on for 20 minutes before rinsing with clean, cool water and washing with a gentle cleanser and patting the skin dry. This treatment can be repeated in the morning and evening as long as it does not irritate your skin. Unused portions of this mixture can be kept in a cool, dark place for 30 days.
