The word aphrodisiac derives from the Greek goddess of beauty and love, Aphrodite. It is a drink, drug, food, tool or scent designed to improve the libido, or sexual desire. Viagra, an aphrodisiac medication, helps a man respond to sexual stimulation. Although it can be beneficial, some people prefer more natural routes. Fortunately, many libido-boosting foods can be found right in your kitchen.

Oysters

According to the AskMen website, raw oysters are as good for your love life as Viagra. This is because oysters contain high amounts of zinc, which help to increase testosterone and sperm production. In addition, oysters are full of the libido-increasing hormone dopamine.

To eat, thoroughly cleanse the shells to remove bacteria and dirt. Pry open the oyster shells and place them on an ice bed. If desired, dribble with a few fresh squirts of lemon juice to enhance flavor. Incorporate oysters into your foreplay routine. Feed each other, allowing the shucking process to become erotic.

Soy

Psychology Today explains that soy is a natural aphrodisiac. It is full of isoflavones, an antioxidant that can help to keep the vagina area lubricated. In addition, soy benefits the male prostate. It helps to decrease the amount of prostate-specific antigen, or PSA in the body. Adding just 2 oz of soy to your diet each day can drop total PSA by 13 percent. Soy comes in many forms, including soy meat, soy cheese, soy milk, soy flour and tofu.

Avocado

Avocados can help to increase the libido in both women and men. The AskMen website notes that avocados contain large amounts of folic acid, a vitamin that helps the body metabolize protein. As a result, you may notice an increase in stamina and energy levels.

In addition, avocados have vitamin B-6, a nutrient that boosts the production of male hormones. Potassium, also found in avocado, can help to regulate the thyroid gland, which in turn increases libido. To enjoy this food as part of foreplay, cut it in half. Take turns using your fingers to scoop out the pulp. Then lick it off.

Nuts

Since Medieval times, nuts have been used to increase the libido. In fact, Psychology Today states that pine nuts were often used to create love potions. As with oysters, pine nuts are full of zinc, which helps to stimulate testosterone.

In addition to pine nuts, almonds can act as an aphrodisiac. The fatty acids found in them help to manage healthy hormone production. The smell of almonds may even stimulate arousal in females. Try snacking on a handful or sprinkling them on a salad before bedtime. Or, light a few almond-scented candles to enhance a sexy mood.
