Aging is the bane of our existence. Accompanying aging are the inevitable facial fine lines, wrinkles and skin sagging. Although you cannot reverse your age, plenty of skin firming remedies can help reduce the appearance of aging skin. Thanks to modern technology, sophisticated skin rejuvenation treatments include noninvasive laser resurfacing, dermal fillers and microdermabrasion.
Laser Therapy
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, effective laser therapies include laser rejuvenation and laser resurfacing. Those with mild to moderate sagging, wrinkles, scarring and skin discoloration may find laser rejuvenation to be a helpful treatment. Laser resurfacing is more ideal for those with deeper scars, wrinkles and loose skin. Laser treatments are effective because they are noninvasive, require little to no healing time and help stimulate the production of collagen to promote firmer skin, reports the AAD.
Injections
According to the Mayo Clinic, dermal fillers are options to smooth and refinish skin. Dermal fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane use hyaluronic acid to plump the skin and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. The use of human and bovine collagen are commonly used to smooth out wrinkles. Dermal filler injections must be repeated every three to six months to keep skin looking its best, notes the Mayo Clinic.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is useful for mild wrinkling and skin discoloration. It works by using microparticles to slough away the surface layers of skin, revealing fresh, healthy skin. It promotes new skin growth and collagen production to keep skin looking youthful. Microdermabrasion requires little to no recovery time and no anesthetic. This method may be performed by a dermatologist or you can do it yourself with an at-home microdermabrasion kit. According to the AAD, treatments need to be repeated every two to three weeks until you achieve the desired results.
Facelift
A facelift is an invasive procedure that is done by a cosmetic surgeon, who cuts into the hairline, then pulls and smooths out the skin to create a wrinkle-free appearance. Facelifts are advantageous because they only have to be performed one time. According to plastic surgeon Dr. Ankit Desai, of Jacksonville, Florida, the results last an average of 10 years. Contact a cosmetic surgeon to determine if you are a candidate for a facelift as well as the risks involved with the procedure.
