Exfoliate your skin to remove dead skin cells that may cause skin to look dull. Routine exfoliation reveals the glowing skin underneath and aids in the absorption of moisturizers. For those who wear makeup, facial exfoliation assists in creating even coverage and allows makeup to glide on more smoothly. Oatmeal helps to slough off dead skin cells. Honey is a natural humectant so it draws moisture to the skin.
Step 1
Mix the oatmeal, honey and 1 tbsp. distilled water with a spoon or small spatula. Only include oil if exfoliating dry or combination skin. Mixture should be thick and slightly pasty, not runny or thin. Place cucumber slices in remaining distilled water and refrigerate to chill.
Step 2
Cleanse the skin with a mild moisturizer and rinse with lukewarm water. Do not scrub.
Step 3
Spread oatmeal mixture over the skin and gently massage with fingers for 30 seconds. If using the scrub on the face, avoid application near eyes.
Step 4
Rinse the mixture from the skin with warm water.
Step 5
Using toner, remove any traces left on the face with a cotton ball. Allow skin to air dry and, within 3 minutes, apply a light facial moisturizer to prevent over drying.
Tips and Warnings
- Exfoliating scrub can be used on the body also. Follow with a moisturizing body lotion. Cucumber slices can be replaced with rose petals. Apply sunblock before heading outdoors.
- Do not scrub skin with more than gentle pressure. Do not scrub irritated or broken skin. Do not exfoliate skin more than twice a week. Do not apply acidic or harsh astringent or products after exfoliation. They may sting or burn skin.
