Home remedies for dried out, frizzy hair provide a budget-friendly, health-conscious way to take care of your locks while knowing exactly what you are putting on your tresses. Home remedies for dry hair can be made with ingredients easily available in your pantry or local grocery store, soothing your dry hair and your wallet.

Hot Oil Treatment

Step 1

Mix two tablespoons of jojoba oil with one teaspoon of olive oil. Jojoba oil, according to a study published in the February 2009 issue of the International Journal of Cosmetic Science, mimics the natural oils produced by the body. Olive oil is a mild oil used to add extra moisture, as noted in "A Consumer's Dictionary of Cosmetic Ingredients."

Step 2

Warm the mixture in a saucepan over low heat. Stir constantly to ensure the mixture doesn't scald and that the oils blend evenly.

Step 3

Let the mixture cool. Apply the oils to your hair, working on the driest, most damaged areas first. Run a comb through your hair to ensure an even distribution for all-over damage.

Step 4

Wrap your hair in a warm towel. Let the oils sit on your hair for approximately 30 to 40 minutes.

Step 5

Shampoo your hair with a mild cleanser to remove the oils. Follow up with a conditioner, if necessary.

Deep Conditioning Mask

Step 1

Mix two tablespoons of honey with a teaspoon of olive oil. Mix in a half a cup of warm, flat, hops-based beer. Honey and olive oil are natural moisturizers, while beer acts as a holding agent, preventing frizzy hair from flying away, as noted in "Beauty and the Budget."

Step 2

Heat the mixture in a saucepan over low heat for about three minutes, stirring constantly to ensure an even emulsion of the ingredients.

Step 3

Apply the honey, oil and beer mixture to your hair.

Step 4

Leave the mixture on your hair for no less than 10 minutes. For deeper penetration of the solution, wrap your hair in a warm towel after applying the mixture.

Step 5

Shampoo your hair to remove the mixture. Some residue will remain, but your hair should feel light, shiny and soft.

Protein Conditioner

Step 1

Separate one egg white from the yolk. Egg whites contain proteins that stick around even after the mixture been rinsed out, notes "Milady's Skin Care and Cosmetic Ingredients Dictionary."

Step 2

Beat the egg white until it foams. This can take up to three minutes if beating by hand.

Step 3

Mix the egg white with five tablespoons of plain, unflavored yogurt. Yogurt contains proteins and lactic acid--an ingredient that smooths the scaly outer covering, the cuticle, of hair.

Step 4

Apply the mixture to your hair, concentrating on the most damaged, dry, frizzy areas first and applying the rest as needed. This home remedy is reputed to make your hair stronger and less prone to breakage.

Step 5

Let the mixture sit on your hair for about 15 minutes. Rinse the mixture from your hair. Do not shampoo. Follow this treatment with a deep conditioning remedy if your hair still feels parched and frizzy.

Tips and Warnings

  • Home remedies are not a replacement for professional care. Dry, frizzy hair can be a symptom of an underlying health problem, such as a nutritional deficiency. If you are concerned about the condition of your hair, speak to your doctor or dermatologist.
  • Honey is a life-threatening allergen for some. You can replace honey in most recipes with coconut oil or shea butter.
