Located near well-known attractions like Pigeon Forge and Dollywood, Townsend, Tennessee, is a popular destination for tourists. A number of campgrounds in Townsend offer healthy living activities, such as hiking and biking, swimming and fishing.

Big Meadow Family Campground

Catering only to recreational vehicles, or RVs, Big Meadow Family Campground is located about 15 miles from Pigeon Forge in Townsend. As of July 2010, RV sites range from $40 to $50 per night depending on the size of the site. All sites include water, electricity, sewer and cable TV hookups. Amenities at Big Meadow include laundry facilities, bathhouse, pavilion, game room and camp store. For healthy activities, the campsite offers an exercise room, basketball court, playground for children, paved bike trails and trout fishing spots on the Little River. A golf course is also located within two miles of Big Meadow.

Townsend/Great Smokies KOA

The Townsend/Great Smokies KOA is a relatively new campground in the KOA chain. The campground offers one- and two-bedroom cabins, camping lodges and RV and tent sites. On-site amenities include two bathhouses, laundry facilities, free wireless Internet access, an ice cream and fudge shop, outdoor movie cinema and a convenience store. For healthy living activities, guests can bike on the 5-mile bike trail, tube and trout fish on the Little River, play on the basketball court or swim in the campground's pool. Mountaineer Campground

Mountaineer Campground in Townsend offers cabins, RV sites and tent sites for its guests. On-site amenities at the campground include a bathhouse, laundry facilities, wireless Internet and a convenience store. As of July 2010, cabins cost $75 per night and RV and tent sites range between $29 and $41 depending on hookups and location. Healthy lifestyle activities at the campground include a swimming pool, volleyball courts and a playground for children. River rafting, horseback riding, trout fishing and hiking and biking trails are located nearby.

Tremont Outdoor Resort

Located on Stables Road in Townsend, Tremont Outdoor Resort offers RV and tent sites as well as cabins. Rates very depending on hookups, location and the season that guests are visiting. As of July 2010, cabins range between $55 and $115, while RV and tent sites cost between $24 and $65 per night. Healthy living activities at Tremont include swimming at the resort's pools, fishing and tubing on the river, hiking on nature trails or playing sports on the volleyball and basketball courts. Three bathhouses, laundry facilities, a game room and a camp store are among campground amenities.

Lazy Daze Campground

Twenty-one miles from tourist attractions in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, Lazy Daze Campground in Townsend features cabins, RV sites and tent sites for visitors. Healthy activities at the campground include hiking and biking on trails, fishing and tubing on the river and swimming in the on-site pool. Lazy Daze features a bathhouse, 24-hour laundry facilities and a convenience store. As of July 2010, cabins cost $75 per night and RV and tent sites range between $38 and $44 depending on the location and hookups.
