Bicycle motocross began when groups of excitement hungry youths started emulating their gas-powered motorcycle heroes on their bicycles. Not long afterword, fathers and sons began tinkering in garages everywhere, modifying and enhancing bicycles to pedal faster, brake harder and withstand more abuse. Today, BMX companies utilize the latest in space-age materials, new technologies and bicycle advancements to create quality, reliable BMX bikes.

Haro Team Issue

This race-inspired bike is the flagship of longtime BMX fabricator Haro Bikes. With high-end, lightweight parts, the Team Issue is built for speed. The frame and fork are both high-grade aluminum, as well as the Alienation front and rear wheels. The two piece alloy crankset has an external sealed cartridge bottom bracket and the tenacious Intense Micro Knobby Tires grip the dirt. The cost as of 2010 is $600.

Diamond Back Grind 20

Diamond Back's Grind series are heavy duty bikes made to withstand the rigors of everything a BMXer can throw at it. It might not be the lightest, but it's one tough bike. A tough, steel frame starts things off strong, and alloy rims and front and rear Tektra brakes manage speed. The Grind 20 also comes with a brake cable untangling feature, allowing tricks like bar spins, according to Diamondbackbmx.com. The cost as of 2010 is $179.99.

Redline Device Complete

The Device Complete is for the Redline 2010 Freestyle lineup, with some weight-saving parts that keep the Redline signature quality even lighter than before. This freestyler comes with the same chromoly frame and fork that the factory riders use, according to Redlinebicycles.com. Also, the Device comes with a hollowed stem, super strong Sun Baller rims and Redline Hubs. Odyssey brakes, Redline cranks and Odyssey Aitkin tires make this a high-end value with a cost of $1,589 as of 2010.
