Race fans can get their racing thrills by camping at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, or AMS, in Atlanta, Georgia. There are several options for camping during event weekends. Camping is available track-side, infield and outside the speedway, in addition to select locations for up close racing action. All camping locations are accessible to AMS bus and tram services for quick access to grandstand areas inside the speedway.
Trackside Terrace Camping
Trackside Terrace Camping is for recreational vehicles, or RVs, only. There are 61 terrace camping spots available. All spots offer a renowned track-side view of the speedway action along the backstretch. Five additional veranda spots are available that offer campers an up close track-side viewing experience. Each camping spot comes with 10 daily admission tickets, round the clock security, two vehicle passes and water, electric and sewer hookups.
Infield Camping
Race fans will discover an unparalleled camping experience in the infield. Showers for campers are located at each end of the field and trash depots are stationed between the first and second turn of the speedway. Hard-sided campers are restricted from this area. Only soft-sided pop-up campers and tents are allowed in the infield. Tram services are also available to transport campers outside the field.
Outside Camping
For campers wanting to enjoy their experience outside the track, there are several spots available throughout the speedway parking lot, both reserved and unreserved. Spots are available for RVs, tents and soft pop-ups, including handicap parking as needed. Main showers and restroom facilities are available for all outside campers. All outside spots include round the clock security and select spots offer quiet time enforcement for campers wishing to experience a more relaxed atmosphere.
Quiet Times
Security enforces quiet times from midnight until 7 a.m. The exception is the Family Campground with quiet time from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. Generators are allowed during quiet times. AMS suggests courtesy be used when deciding the placement of generators. In addition, it is suggested that generator exhausts have flow pipes situated close to the side entry of campers. AMS security can request that you move your generator if it is causing a disturbance to others.
Camping Fees
If camping on AMS property there are associated fees. Fees range from daily to weekly to annually, depending on the viewing location and type of camping unit. For example, unreserved tents and pop-ups average $60. Reserved RV camping ranges from $100 to $150. Premium reserved spots for RVs range from $800 to $1,000 annually. The Trackside Terrace Camping--RV only--is the most expensive at $7,000 annually.
Additional Lodging
AMS partners with local hotels in the area to provide affordable room rates for race fans wanting to get in on the action. As of January 2010, partner hotel rates were capped at $120 per night with no multiple-night stays required. Six of the partner hotels offer maximum $70 per night rates. Private camping is also available outside the speedway.
