Vitamin C is an element required by the human body for synthesis of collagen. Collagen is a component that develops connective tissue, such as skin. An application of vitamin C to the skin may help repair the damage done by sun exposure and can reverse the signs of aging. Preparing your own vitamin C cream is a reasonable approach to using this powerful element as part of a skin care system.
Step 1
Measure out 1 g of L-ascorbic acid. This is the vitamin C powder. L-ascorbic acid is a pure vitamin C formulation that dissolves well in a cream base. Place the measured L-ascorbic acid into an airtight glass container.
Step 2
Add the jar of cold cream to the container with the L-ascorbic acid compound. Mix the two ingredients together until the L-ascorbic powder dissolves completely.
Step 3
Apply a small amount of the cream to a test section on the inside of your forearm. Blend the cream into your skin. Watch the test patch for 24 hours. This allows you to determine if there is any allergic reaction or skin irritation. Skin irritation may indicate too much vitamin C in the cream, in which case you should add more cold cream to the mix and retest. Swelling or a severe rash may be a sign of an allergy. Discontinue use of the reaction is too strong.
Step 4
Rub the cream onto your face and neck once you find the right mixture. Store the cream in the refrigerator. Following the directions on the cold cream for shelf life.
