If eyes are truly the windows to your soul, you will want to keep them clear. Chinese Holistic Health Exercises notes that traditional Chinese practitioners believe bright eyes to be indicative of a harmonious spirit, with dull eyes reflecting the opposite. If you feel your eyes don't properly reflect your inner soul, you may want to start with some simple exercises to brighten and relieve sore, tired eyes. Check with your doctor before trying eye exercises, especially if you have a history of eye problems.

Eye Roll Exercise

Begin by standing, sitting or lying in a comfortable position. With your eyes open, roll them in clockwise circles 15 to 20 times, trying to keep the circles as wide as possible. Start out slowly, then try to increase the speed as you go. Then repeat the eye-rolling in a counterclockwise motion 15 to 20 times. According to Chinese Holistic Health Exercises, this technique can strengthen eye muscles and promote blood circulation, as well as stretching and toning muscles that control the eyes.

Eye Rub Exercise

Begin the exercise in a comfortable position; sitting, standing or lying down can all work equally well. Chinese Holistic Health Exercises suggests doing this exercise in bed before rising to help you wake up. Close your eyes, and rub your palms together vigorously to warm them. Place your palms over your closed eyelids, focusing on the warmth penetrating and soothing them. Hold your hands over your eyes until the warmth subsides, then repeat the palm-rubbing and placing two more times.

Eyelid Soother

Warm up your hands by rubbing them together briskly, then use the pads of your fingers to rub and massage gently across your eyelids, proceeding from the inner corner out to the sides of your eyes beneath the outer tips of your eyebrows. Chinese Holistic Health Exercises recommends repeating the motion 20 to 30 times. If you don't feel inclined to count, simply perform the motion for one to two minutes.

Eye Socket Massage

Rub your hands briskly together to warm them, then use the pads of your middle fingers to rub all around your eye sockets, starting under the brow bone and proceeding from inward to outward, the same direction in which your eyebrows naturally grow. Continue rubbing in small, gentle circles until you have gone around your eyes 20 times, or performed the exercise for one to two minutes.

Up and Down Motion

Begin with sitting comfortably in a chair, eyes open, spine erect and hands on your knees. Raise your eyes and find a small point you can see clearly without straining or moving your head. Then find a small point on the floor that you can see clearly. After this initial warmup, you are ready to do the exercise: move your eyes upwards as far as can, then downwards as far as you can. Repeat the up-and-down motion four times, then finish by blinking quickly. This exercise, from Holistic Online, is intended to reduce general tension as well as eye tension.

Vision Shifting

From Folks Online comes the vision shifting exercise, meant to relieve eye fatigue from staring too long at computer screens. Purposely shift your vision to an object farther away, such as a tree in a window, or something closer, such as the fabric of a sleeve.
