Hair professionals list causes of hair damage on Salonweb.com. The main culprits are curling irons, blow dryers, hot curlers, heat lamps, UV rays from the sun, combs, brushes, hair dyes, perms, relaxers, pool chemicals and the temperature of the air. Give yourself a healthy hair treatment twice a week to keep your hair looking healthy and shiny.

Conditioner

Conditioning after shampooing makes your hair smooth and soft. The cuticles are temporarily smoothed down, making your hair glossier and easier to manage. Conditioner also protects your hair from potential damage when using a heating tool. Rinse conditioners are formulated for different hair types such as oily, normal, dry and damaged.

Hair Conditioning Spray

Hair conditioning sprays are used prior to styling to form a protective barrier against the harmful effects of heat damage, as well as reducing static electricity and flyaway hair. Towel dry your hair and spray in while combing or brushing. Conditioning spray can also be used to detangle your hair after rinsing it in the shower.

Intensive Conditioner

Intensive conditioners help to maintain the natural moisture balance in hair by replenishing it wherever necessary. Use it twice a week for split, dry and frizzy hair. Shampoo then distribute the conditioner evenly through your hair. Allow it to penetrate for five minutes. Comb and use a hair dryer for optimal results. Rinse out thoroughly.

Safflower Oil

Rub two drops of safflower oil in your palms. A small amount will go a long way. Apply the oil on the ends of your hair, and work toward the scalp. Leave it in your hair instead of rinsing. Two drops of safflower oil on dry hair is so small, you will not notice it is there. Using this treatment as often as necessary will ensure that your hair will attract and retain moisture.

Leave-in Hair Conditioner

Leave-in hair conditioners are designed to help retain moisture, reduce static and enhance shine. A protective barrier forms and prevents damage from heating tools. Apply after shampooing and do not rinse out. Use this on a daily basis if your hair is extremely damaged.

Protein Treatment

Protein treatments are made for hair that is severely damaged. Hair needs protein throughout its life and a protein treatment can restore its health. This is extremely beneficial for hair that has been overly stressed over time.
Be aware that too many protein treatments can make your hair feel dry or hard, so use this treatment sparingly.
