The creamy green flesh of an avocado is packed with nutrition, including antioxidant vitamins C and B6, and beneficial fats. You can reap the benefits that avocados offer when you eat them, but also when you use the fruit to create a face mask. The smoothness of the avocado makes the mask easy to apply, and when combined with other ingredients, can give your dry skin moisture and a new sense of suppleness.

Step 1

Choose an avocado that is ripe and fairly pliant to the touch. Fruit that is not yet ripe is firmer to the touch and may not spread easily.

Step 2

Slice the avocado in half with a sharp knife. Carefully plunge your knife into the large pit and twist your wrist slightly to loosen it from the flesh. Discard the pit.

Step 3

Scrape the avocado from the skin with a fork, and deposit all of the flesh into a mixing bowl. Mash the fruit with your fork until smooth.

Step 4

Add some honey, another natural humectant that helps your skin retain moisture, to the mashed avocado. The website CosmeticsDiary suggests using about 2 tbsp. honey per 2 tbsp. avocado. If you have more of the mash than you can use, transfer 2 tbsp. to another mixing bowl and combine with the honey.

Step 5

Add 1 tsp. olive oil if the honey and avocado mixture is stiff and not easy to stir. Incorporate all ingredients with a wooden spoon until smooth.

Step 6

Apply the avocado face mask in thin layers with your fingers, adding more when necessary to ensure your entire face is covered. Using too much avocado will just cause the mask to fall off your face before it has had a chance to dry. Leave the mask on for 20 minutes or until dried, at which point you can remove it with warm water.
