When you’re tired of sleeping in a tent but you can’t afford a full camping trailer, a tent trailer is a nice alternative. It provides the comfort of an enclosed camping shelter without the size and expense of a full camper. For your next camping trip, creating a checklist of supplies and procedures can help make sure you don’t forget any essentials and help you have a fun time in the great outdoors.

Preparation Checklist

Getting your tent trailer ready for a week in the woods or at the lake is one of the keys for having a relaxing time. Create a checklist of all the aspects of your tent trailer to make sure everything’s functioning properly before you pull out of the driveway. Make sure the pop-up feature is working normally and that all the doors, windows and moving parts are secure before you get going. Pack along all the items you’ll need to make the accessories in your tent trailer function normally, such as a propane tank and a battery, if necessary. Double- and triple-check your hitch connection before pulling out of the driveway to prevent any mishaps on the way to your campsite. Ensure that your tent trailer’s wheels are properly inflated as well. Check for any leaks or drips coming from your tent trailer so you can get them repaired before you head out on your trip. When you arrive at camp, be sure to put blocks behind all the wheels in order to prevent your tent trailer from moving.

Camping Supplies

Even though you’ve upgraded to a tent trailer, you’ll still want to bring along plenty of bedding in case the nights get cold or your heater stops working. Bring along a cooler to store any extra food that won’t fit in the mini refrigerator that comes with most tent trailers. Make sure you have cooking and eating utensils, flashlights, bug repellent and games, books or other entertainment.

Cleaning Supplies

After a week out in the woods, you don’t want to come home with a filthy tent trailer, so pack the cleaning essentials you’ll need to get it spic and span for the ride home. Include paper towels and a basic surface cleaner. You might also want to pack air freshener to help guard against that campfire smell. Bring basic dish washing supplies, such as a scrubber and dish soap, to wash your dishes after meals.
