Vitamins for Skin Growth

Skin growth is important, as your skin needs to generate news cells constantly due to normal cell death, injury or illness. If your skin does not grow back, it may become dry and infected. Thankfully, there are a variety of vitamin, minerals and supplements that can help the skin regrow healthy, hydrated and strong.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin and is derived from two sources called carotenoids, found in numerous plants and vegetables, and retinoids, found in animal sources such as eggs and kidneys, according to the Mayo Clinic. Vitamin A is best known for promoting good vision. Vitamin A is responsible for the production of sebum, the natural oil on your skin that helps it grow. Kids Healthy website says that vitamin A helps with the growth and development of cells and also keeps skin healthy.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an antioxidant vitamin. It helps fight free radicals that may cause damage to the skin and contribute to other health conditions such as heart disease and cancer. Vitamin C helps with the production of collagen, a protein that is used to make skin and scar tissue, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Vitamin C is water-soluble, and as such, it leaves the body through your urine. A deficiency in vitamin C can cause dry, rough and scaly skin.

Biotin

Also called vitamin H, this vitamin is part of the B complex group of vitamins, and is used to convert carbohydrates into fuel for the body. Biotin is necessary for keeping the skin healthy and ensuring that the nervous system is functioning properly. The body needs biotin to help metabolize fats, amino acids and carbohydrates. Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin, which means the body does store it. Biotin is also essential for normal embryonic growth during pregnancy. A lack of biotin may lead to dry and scaly skin, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.
