You don't need to go to an expensive spa or department store to find effective anti-aging creams. Your local drugstore is stocked with dozens of skin-conditioning topical treatments, many of which contain effective ingredients like retinol to help combat signs of aging. For optimal results, select a skincare treatment that's been tested and praised by skincare and beauty professionals.

ROC Complete Lift Night Cream

ROC's anti-aging night cream has an advantage over many other drugstore brand anti-aging creams, reports skincare expert Paula Begoun. She liked its combination of soy extracts, emollients and glycolic acid. The latter, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, can help fight a variety of aging symptoms, including wrinkles.

Almay Rejuvenating Eye Treatment

Years of damage can age the skin around your eyes, leading to crow's feet, sagging and poor skin tone. Almay's rejuvenating eye cream comes recommended by "Shape" magazine as a powerful eye treatment. The magazine liked its use of kinetin, an anti-aging ingredient derived from herbal extracts. The cream also helps moisturize your skin, and proper hydration may help make fine lines less apparent.

ROC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Daily Moisturizer SPF 15

ROC's anti-aging cream was praised by "Real Simple" magazine as one of the best facial moisturizers available. Its beneficial effects on aging skin is twofold. First, it contains retinol, which the University of Maryland Medical Center says effectively counters signs of aging like skin discolorations. Second, it meets the minimum SPF recommendations of the American Cancer Society, helping prevent new wrinkles from forming when your skin is exposed to the sun.

Olay Total Effects Intensive Restoration Treatment

Olay's restoration cream, part of its Total Effects product line, was tested by Begoun who found it "very good." She liked its use of a derivative of vitamin A, and also praised its "beneficial" niacinamide and moisturizing emollients, all of which work together to improve the skin's health and condition and stave off damage. "Shape" magazine's beauty editors also loved it, calling it "age-defying."
