A positive self-image is one of the most important things to have in order to function properly in daily life. You need the confidence to ask women or men out on dates, you need to be brave when you have a job interview and you also need to have the courage to get up in front of a crowd to deliver a speech or sing a song. This is not always easy for some people who are chronically unhappy and negative. But it is possible for everyone to have a positive self-image.

Step 1

Avoid negative influences. There are many people that have a bad self-image because they hang around people who keep putting them down. If this sounds like you, then cut these people out of your life immediately.

Step 2

Read a powerful book. There are a lot of books on the market that revolve around the topic of increasing your self-image. Wayne Dyer is a famous author and speaker who has numerous books on this topic. One in particular is called "Inspiration: Your Ultimate Calling."

Step 3

Create a good support team. There are some people who are happy and positive. Start thinking about all of your friends and family members. Find out who are the most happy and positive and gravitate towards them. Energy has a way of manifesting regardless if it is positive or negative. If you hang around positive people, then this can have an impact on your life and self-image as well.

Step 4

Reverse your thoughts. When you are always thinking in terms of bad and negative outcomes, you are setting yourself up for disaster. Instead of thinking that you are not going to get the promotion you were going for, think that you are. Always replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts and act like you are already in possession of that which you want.

Step 5

Go to the gym. Being overweight, obese or out of shape can cause some people to have a bad self image. In order to boost your confidence and self esteem, go to the gym and get in the best shape of your life. You can also use your time there to socialize with people and possibly make some new friends.

Step 6

Do unto you as you would do unto others. Do not use self-defeating or criticizing words when you think or talk about yourself. Think about how you would treat a friend or loved one and treat yourself the same way.
