Most of us are fastidious about maintaining a clean outer body. We brush our teeth, wash our hair and bathe daily. However, we don't often think about the waste and contaminants that build up in our digestive system. According to proponents of colon cleansing, the waste materials and toxins that reside inside your body can cause low energy, frequent tiredness, skin problems, constipation, gas, irritability, bad breath and food cravings. You can incorporate certain foods into your diet to cleanse your body and improve your health.
Raw Vegetables
All raw vegetables contain enzymes that are necessary for proper digestion. Some vegetables are better than others for cleansing the body of wastes and toxins. Raw vegetable enthusiasts suggest that some of the best vegetables to add to your diet are artichokes, broccoli, red and green vegetables and cauliflower. If you experience bloating, gas or abdominal pains after eating raw vegetables, take your time introducing them into your diet. One way is by having a salad with your lunch or dinner. Another method is to lightly steam or stir-fry the vegetables until you can eat them raw.
Fruit
Fresh fruit is easy to digest and is considered nature's natural cleanser. The natural fiber in the fruit helps to flush the waste and toxins out of your body. Apricots, melons, cantaloupe, all berries, mangoes, red grapes, grapefruit, oranges, kiwi and peaches are some of the best fruits for cleansing your body. When eating fruit, consider the colors. You can provide your body with a broad range of nutrients, minerals and vitamins by including a variety of colors of fruit in your diet.
Herbs
You can cleanse your body by adding fresh herbs to your diet. The University of Maryland Medical Center and the National Library of Medicine have researched and identified some body cleansing herbs. Garlic, onion and rosemary are rich in antioxidants that neutralize damaging particles in your blood and remove them from circulation. Celery seed acts as a diuretic and hastens the elimination of surplus water. Ginger root removes toxins from the kidneys and liver. Dandelion root purifies the blood, acts as a diuretic, removes toxins from the liver and eliminates waste from the body through increased perspiration.
Dandelion root should not be taken by anyone who takes diuretics. Herbs can trigger allergies and interfere with certain drugs. Always check with your doctor prior to using herbs. Also, if you experience any negative effects, stop taking the herb immediately.
