How to Curl Hair With a CHI Flat Iron

The CHI Flat Iron can do more than straighten hair---loose waves and curls can easily be created using the hair styling tool. The hair straighter has two hot plates that are on each side of the tong-like tool. The hair is grasped between the hot plates when styling.

Step 1

Start with clean hair. Spray a light mist of a thermal setting spray that protects hair from hot styling tools.

Step 2

Clip hair up and into sections. Leave the bottom portion of hair down. Divide the bottom portion into 1-inch sections.

Step 3

Take the flat iron and grasp a 1-inch section of the hair approximately 2 inches from the scalp. Turn the iron 180 degrees and pull hair through the iron by using a slow downward motion.

Step 4

Continue ironing and twisting hair sections. Release sections from the top of the head one at a time and curl. Spray hair wit hairspray to set curls.

Step 5

Finger-comb the hair when finished. Do not use a brush or comb.

Tips and Warnings

  • For tighter curls, use smaller sections of hair; for looser curls, use larger sections.
